5 'Not-So-True' Assumptions About Portable People

By popular demand, portable diaries is back! Apparently, people love reading some of my 'short girl problems' 😏. If you haven't read any of the posts in my portable diaries, then feel free to catch up here and here you're welcome!

Today's post is based on certain assumptions people have of small people. Trust me, I would know if they were true or not. Basically, I just want to clarify some things that people tend to think about portable people.

Let's get right to it.

1) People Assume That We're Always Cheated and Bullied: Err...hello? As as matter of fact, it's the other way round most times. I was telling someone the other day that it's almost as if smallish people are made with an in-built defence mechanism. We're so conscious of not wanting to be taken for granted that we're ever ready to attack- some more exreme than others anyway. So to think we always get bullied or cheated is a stretch, we are very well equipped, thank you!

2) People Assume We're Not Accorded Any Respect: Well, this isn't so far from the truth because a lot of people just see you as a child, which is understandable but at the end of the day, it boils down to the individual. There are certain things/qualities that should come in handy in the portable starter pack; (apart from heels of course!) Certain qualities like charisma, confidence, poise and finesse should be ever present. Some of these things may be evident upon interaction, while some others are very visible. Actually it applies to everybody, whether you're portable or not, the way you carry yourself goes a long way to determine whether you would be respected or not.

3) People Assume We're Our Friend's Younger Sibling: No No No! I am not my friend's younger sister or cousin. As annoying as this is, it always turns out funny for me. Why you ask? My friends hulk out  on anybody that assumes this. In fact, I will have to say it's fine and just introduce myself properly, then the poor person will start apologising till thy kingdom comeπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. I had to ask one of my friends why they always try to 'fight' for me, and she said it was always very annoying the way people just assume without trying to find out properly. So sweetπŸ˜ŠπŸ˜—

4) People Assume We didn't Pay Our Development Levy: A.K.A "owo Idagbasoke" (only Yoruba people will get this) Dear mummies, daddies, aunties and uncles, I know this is supposed to be a joke of some sort, but I still don't get it every time! I mean seriously what development levy? What does it really do? Mahn this assumption makes me really weak.😝

5) People Assume You Dont Eat: I mean, come on! I'll have you know I eat a standard sized meal, whatever that is, but there's also something like hereditary, traits, genetics you know? Those things we did in biology? Yeah. When you have two smallish parents who got married for love and not the security of their child's height,  you get a me! πŸ˜’ Lol. Seriously though, we eat guys, it's not about the food, except you want me to eat and eat till I gain so much weight that will end up making me look like a short potato, nah I'll pass.

That's it guys! These are a few of the not-so-true assumptions that I remember as that the time of writing this post.

Over to You...

Can you relate? What other assumptions would you like me to clarify? I would love to know your thoughts
😊
